5:05 Artie Kreutzer is one of the partners in CrossFit 201 in New Jersey. He came on the show to talk about a relatively new stretching and mobility technique called Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST). Kreutzer explained that fascia is the connective tissue surrounding our muscles and joints and that FST can really help improve mobility and performance. He explained how CrossFitters would benefit from FST and how they can find a certified therapist. He also described how this technique would work hand in hand with the mobility work Kelly Starrett promotes.
30:47 Joe Westerlin is a member of CrossFit’s Seminar Staff. He explained what it’s like to travel around the country and help people at the certificate courses. Westerlin is also a co-owner of CrossFit Omaha and described why the box doesn’t have drop-in or check-it-out times. He explained how they give people a free session and then spend time talking with them and answering their questions. Westerlin detailed how they start people with introductory classes that include a nutrition lecture, and he described how they stress the classic CrossFit prescription of mechanics and consistency before introducing intensity.
