Four years ago, Cassie Haynes Grassia was about 250 lb. and smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.
“I was not that happy of a person,” she says.
Today, things are different. Grassia stumbled upon CrossFit in 2009. Now she is one of the leading athletes at CrossFit Center City in Philadelphia.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever had an athlete of that caliber in my gym,” head coach Erin Davidson says. “It’s truly a privilege to be able to work with her on a day-to-day basis.”
The 29-year-old Grassia had done nothing physical until her first triathlon three years ago.
“For me, I needed something in my life as a catalyst for this change,” Grassia explains. “There’s so much more that you can get from CrossFit than just a heavier deadlift or bigger muscles.”
Her values and priorities have changed, she says, and that’s influenced her professional and personal life.
“Why do I CrossFit?” Grassia asks. “I don’t understand why people don’t CrossFit is really the answer.”
