On Episode 267 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Ute CrossFit owner Tommy Hackenbruck and HQ Level 1 Seminar Staff member and South East Regional director John McLaughlin. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

3:11 Ute CrossFit’s team won the Affiliate Cup at last year’s CrossFit Games, and team captain and head trainer Tommy Hackenbruck came on the show to talk about this year’s squad. He discussed Event 13.1 and talked about his personal strategy for the rest of the CrossFit Games Open. He also talked about the crippling illness that affects all CrossFit competitors at this time of year: “leaderboarditis” plagues 98 percent of Open athletes, and there is no cure. Hackenbruck says he encourages all athletes at his affiliate to participate in the Open but explained how he makes sure CrossFit the sport doesn’t overshadow CrossFit the fitness program.

36:32 Taylor Richards-Lindsay made a brief guest appearance and spoke about her performance in the first workout of the 2013 competitive season.

38:15 John McLaughlin has already put in several months of planning to make sure this year’s South East Regional runs smoothly. He came on the show to give listeners an idea of the preparation it takes to run a regional event, and he spoke about visiting Equador in preparation for the South America Regional. McLaughlin is a big part of the CrossFit Games finals, and he talked about the variety of responsibilities he’s had at the Home Depot Center, including running the Masters competition in 2011. Going out on a limb early in the season, he ended by providing his predictions for the podium at this year’s CrossFit Games.
