Krista Guloien is an Olympic rower who brought home a silver medal for Canada last year. She’s also now a CrossFit athlete.

“Working with and for other people was the key to me doing as much as I did or going as hard as I did,” says the rower who competed in the women’s eights in London.

She adds, “(That) extra something ... was about not letting my teammates down.”

Guloien says working with and against others in CrossFit is what appeals to her, and she describes the sport of fitness as her “next challenge” after 11 years of rowing.

“The reason why CrossFit is a natural fit for me … is in the structure that it provides—in the goals, the goal setting, the benchmarks,” she says.

Even though she’s been to the elite levels of sport, she admits she has much to gain from CrossFit both physically and mentally.

“Anyone can walk through those doors and learn and get better and become stronger,” Guloien says.
