
On Episode 292 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed Bill Grundler and Peter Egyed, both of whom attended the Hotshots 19 Memorial Workout in Prescott, Ariz., on Aug. 31. This episode was webcast on Sept. 4, 2013.
4:23 Shortly after doing the workout, Bill Grundler described why it needed to be challenging in remembrance of the 19 Hotshots who died fighting wildfire in Yarnell, Ariz. Grundler spoke about the atmosphere at the event and what it was like to view the fence around the Hotshots barracks, on which people have left cards, letters, pictures and other items in tribute. Grundler served as a firefighter for 17 years and described what it was like to help the family members of the Hotshots as they gave everything they had during the workout.
14:32 Peter Egyed of CrossFit Fury in Goodyear, Ariz., also attended the memorial event. He detailed what it was like to work out with some of the fittest people in the world and the family members of the fallen Hotshots. Egyed talked about meeting the families in private before the event started and spoke about the money that’s been raised. At press time the total was more than US$232,000. Finally, Egyed talked about his affiliate and the main thing that’s helped it succeed over the past six years.
