One hundred days, 16 countries and 12,000 miles by motorcycle—one with a broken starter.

Pat Sherwood and videographer Ian Wittenber have yet to leave Mexico for Guatemala, and Wittenber has to push-start his bike.

“We’ll push start it until we can’t push start it anymore. We’re goin’ to Guatemala,” Sherwood says assuredly.

The duo takes to a windy mountain road, where Sherwood gets hit by what the two men have dubbed “death buses.”

“Didn’t go down, thank you, Jesus. Thank you so much. I don’t know how many of my nine lives I’ve used up on motorcycles,” he says.

The next obstacle is a road blocked by locals who drove nails through planks of wood. Sherwood and Wittenber were able to skirt through, but not without incident.

“Somebody swung a stick or a club and clubbed Ian in the back—in his back when he’s riding. Like, literally, an angry mob dude clubbed Ian in his back while he’s riding,” Sherwood explains. “I don’t even know what to say.”

From there, it’s on to Guatemala City.
