Using wooden plyometrics boxes, bumper plates and dumbbells, Sean Lind of CrossFit Gymnastics shows a progression for developing an L-sit press to handstand.
At the CrossFit Experience at this year’s CrossFit Games, he takes a spectator to a pike handstand with feet supported on the box and then back down again. Then he takes her to makeshift parallettes, which are dumbbells atop two bumper plates.
“When you get stronger, we’re going to raise this height even more,” Lind tells her.
After a few progressions, he spots the athlete as she goes up to a handstand and then back down into an L-sit.
The movement, he notes, is not just for gymnasts, pointing to World Class Fitness in 100 Words, written by CrossFit Inc. Founder and CEO Greg Glassman.
“This is that press to handstand that he’s talking about,” Lind says. “It’s one of the best things you can do for any core development.”
