Whether people know it or not, many have already seen tattooist Josh Wrede’s work on a few very prominent human billboards: multi-year CrossFit Games competitors and Level 1 Seminar Staff members Matt Chan and Chris Spealler.
Chan and Spealler aren’t the only athletes the Colorado-based Wrede has inked, and high-intensity CrossFit workouts often reveal his art on hard-working bodies around the country. Wrede specializes in large tattoos and only works on one client a day to remain focused on the big projects. Some of his favorite themes include mythical creatures, flowers and leaves, warriors and goddesses, and forces of nature.
CrossFit Inc. photographer Dave Re turned his camera on a host of Wrede’s subjects for a new look at CrossFit ink.
