It began with hang snatches and ended with a tiebreaker whose name was Fran.

The January CrossFit Tour stop in New Zealand not only gathered affiliate owners and community members to mingle and sweat, but it also summoned CrossFit Games athletes to compete.

In attendance were Ruth Anderson Horrell, Jason Khalipa, Chad Mackay, Scott Panchik, Alessandra Pichelli, Becca Voigt and Kara Webb.

Part 1 shows the first event: a max hang snatch. Mackay lifted the most—275 lb.—but it was Jason Khalipa who stole the show. After Khalipa failed two attempts at 270 lb., Henry Heke, a New Zealander from CrossFit Hawkes Bay, performed a solo haka especially for Khalipa, who then nailed the lift for a PR.

Part 2 documents a classic test of might: CrossFit Total—a “strength show” for all the spectators, according to Dave Castro, CrossFit Inc. Director of the Games and Director of Training.

Part 3 features a high-intensity tiebreaker between Horrell and Pichelli: a Fran-off.

Once Pichelli completed her first round only 1 minute in, it was clear she would be the winner. She finished Fran in 2:35, but Horrell was right behind her at 2:47.
