Earthquakes, jail, sheep, tattoos, the haka and lots of boxes: The CrossFit Tour was in New Zealand in January.
In four episodes, CrossFit Inc. videographer Jordan Gravatt takes you to dozens of affiliates across the country.
In Episode 1, the CrossFit Tour crew stops at CrossFit Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand. The town has been hit with multiple earthquakes, bringing people together through the disasters.
“We as coaches and other members of the community have had opportunities to become involved in their lives and support them and help them,” coach Chris Coxon explains. “That’s what we love.”
In Episode 2, the gang visits CrossFit Wild South, where they find three-time CrossFit Games competitor Ruth Anderson Horrell. There, they join the workout.
“They’re great wherever you go, right?” Gravatt says. “That’s what CrossFit’s all about: You have a family all around the world—in every corner of the globe.”
In Episode 3, it’s on to the Queenstown area, where they meet Phil Borland, owner of CrossFit Alexandra. The affiliate set up shop only months before in a town of only 5,000 people. Still, the nearby river makes for some unique workouts that pique interest.
In the final installment, the CrossFit Tour staff heads up to the North Island to meet more affiliate owners and hear their stories of triumph and struggle.
At Zealous CrossFit, trainers Jan “Yushu” Zabawski and Maxmillion Roache lived in their box for six months after opening. Showers?
“Nah,” Roache says, “we had a hose that went out the back door.”
