Elyse Umeda of CrossFit Hawaii/Hardass Fitness actually qualified for the 2009 CrossFit Games but was unable to compete due to an illness in the family. For her, 2010 was a “redemption year,” and she made the most of it, finishing 11th at the Games in a tribute to her grandfather.
In this video shot in the warm-up area at the Home Depot Center, Umeda talks about what drove her to get back to the Games, what it felt like to finally get to compete in the test of the world’s fittest, and how she discovered the sport of fitness.
