On Episode 358 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed CrossFit Petoskey owner Jon Jansen. This episode was webcast on Dec. 3, 2014.
2:11 To open the show, Judkins played a motivational speech by Marcus Luttrell, the retired Navy SEAL who is the subject of the recent movie “Lone Survivor.” Luttrell was the only member of his SEAL team to survive a mission in Afghanistan in 2005. Among the deceased was Lt. Michael Murphy, for whom the CrossFit workout Murph is named.
9:10 Jansen played offensive tackle for the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions from 1999 to 2009 and now runs a CrossFit gym in Petoskey, Michigan. He spoke about how his affiliate is having a tremendous effect on the community of about 6,000. CrossFit Petoskey’s programs include a women’s-only class, and Jansen explained how it’s been received by his members. He also offered some advice to gym owners who might want to create a women’s class of their own. Finally, Jansen talked about how his coaching style was shaped over a decade as a pro athlete, and he explained how he programs for young athletes and helps people overcome the occasional frustrations that come with hard training.
