The Southeast Regional was one of three events held on the last weekend of qualification, and the competition featured a host of big names from seven states. Many 2009 Games athletes were registered for the event, including Jenni Orr, Shana Alverson and Laura DeMarco, but newcomers such as Michelle Kinney, Leah Polaski and others had legitimate shots to take one of four spots in L.A.
The regional featured five events:
WOD 1—Squat-clean ladder: one clean every 50 seconds, with a 1-lb. bonus awarded to the best lift for each bar jerked overhead (120-180 lb.).
WOD 2—12 minutes total, with 10 handstand push-up buy-in. Then AMRAP of 20 double-unders, 10 box jumps (24 inches) and 10 sandbag lunges (40 lb.).
WOD 3—4 rounds for time of 2 muscle-ups and 16 kettlebell snatches (8 per arm, 35 lb.).
WOD 4—2 rounds of row 500 meters and 25 burpees.
WOD 5—8 rounds of 2 squat snatches (85 lb.), 4 push presses or jerks (85 lb.), 6 chest-to-bar pull-ups and run 200 meters.

In the end, Kinney took the overall title, followed by Orr, Alverson and DeMarco. Interestingly, both Kinney and men’s regional champ Rich Froning Jr. were winners of the Alabama Sectional, and both hail from Tennessee.
