Join Sevan Matossian as he captures the athletes, judges, spectators and staff, providing a look at what goes on before, during and after the events of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games.

In Part 5, the Triplet Sprint is the test.

“It’s a nasty, nasty combination,” Mikko Salo says of the event, which comprises muscle-ups, deficit deadlifts, GHD sit-ups and an escalating shuttle run.

The winner on the men’s side of competition is Josh Bridges.

“I told myself today I was going to come out focused and fired up. That’s what I did,” he says. “It felt good. It felt really good.”

The event continues with a quick weight change before the women compete.

HQ’s Nicole Carroll is excited for the female competitors.

“The Games pushes the envelope of what’s expected of women, and I think that that drives the rest of the year. It drives women to be better,” she says.

Next up is Skills 2: a one-rep max of weighted chest-to-bar pull-ups, then a one-rep-max snatch followed by jug carry for time. The final workout of the second day is Event 6: the Killer Kage.

Rich Froning Jr. describes his strategy to gauge his fellow athletes while competing.

“Trying to play it a little smart this year, maybe not just wreck myself like last year to where I’m just got nothing left,” he says.
