With 3,181 miles down, Ian Wittenber is so busy picking up interviews with CrossFit Games athletes that he hasn’t even stopped to shave. This time he’s visiting with South Central athlete Breck Berry and North Central athlete Stacie Tovar.
Berry has been CrossFitting for years. He’s been in the mix of the Games since 2007, with his top finish coming in that year (fifth). In 2010 he’ll be one of a handful of athletes to have competed in all four Games. As a new father and the owner and manager of CrossFit Jenks, Berry has a lot on his plate. His consistency in sticking with the CrossFit protocol has paid dividends over the years though, as he managed to take second at a very stacked South Central Regional.
Tovar has been training under the watchful gaze of Ricky (Omaha Ricky) Frausto. Tovar’s strength and speed carried her all the way through the end of the first day of the 2009 CrossFit Games, but she failed to make the cut for the Sunday show, finishing 36th overall. Following a weakness-biased program over the last few months has helped her round out her program, and she’s hopeful of what’s to come in L.A.
Will Berry’s fourth year at the Games be his time to shine? Can Tovar’s attack on her weaknesses get her into the top 20 or higher?
