Four-time CrossFit Games competitor Peter Egyed is also the owner of CrossFit Fury, whose affiliate team he coached at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games. Egyed shares his perspective as an affiliate owner and what has worked for him to bring in new clients.
In Part 2 Egyed continues his discussion about his Basics program, which he says has “more than doubled our membership.”
“I feel that we are finding some amazing athletes out there that maybe never would have thought that they were great athletes or possibly would have never joined in the first place,” Egyed says.
One of the main purposes of the Basics class is to help new athletes develop intensity, Egyed says. Other focuses are on fundamentals like the squat, pull-up and double-under.
After athletes have grasped body-weight basics, Egyed moves athletes into the Prep program to transition them into classes. There, athletes learn more complex gymnastics skills and the Olympic lifts. The Prep classes supplement the Basics with smaller groups and more one-on-one coaching. The focus shifts from intensity to technique. “We strive for 100 percent form,” he says.
“The first two levels are a progression of improvements in form, and in the CrossFit (class) it’s, ‘OK, we have this good form dialed in—now let’s take it kind of to the next level,’” Egyed says.
