Join Dave Re, grand master in the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), fellow grand master Jake Di Vita and CrossFit Director of Training Dave Castro as they put their shooting skills to the test at the Pala Range in California.

In this video, the trio takes on different stages of competition. Stage 1 is stationary shooting, Stage 2 makes the shooter move and find targets through obstacles, and Stage 3 adds more challenges, such as starting off loading the gun then shooting through barrels and moving to acquire targets.

Stage 4 is the most technical of the stages, Re says. It involves moving targets in addition to making the shooter move to find targets through obstacles.

Stage 5 is “certainly the most physical stage,” Re explains. “Here is a more run-and-gun-type stage.”

The stage also includes moving targets, but the timing is less hurried.

“We’ve got all the time in the world between when we activate them and when we need to shoot them,” Re says.

Castro says he has practiced and come a long way since he first began competing with Re.

“It’s a sport, and there’s so many nuances to it,” he says.
