On Episode 189 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed the champions of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, Annie Thorisdottir and Rich Froning Jr. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011.

6:05 Annie Thorisdottir proved she was an exceptional athlete in 2009, when she was high on the Games leaderboard until muscle-ups came up in the final chipper. She placed second in 2010, and in 2011 she won the coveted title World’s Fittest Female. Iceland Annie came on the show to talk about her experience at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games. She described what it was like to compete against the best athletes in the world and come out on top, and she detailed what her life has been like since the competition. Now she’s actually a celebrity in her home country, and CrossFit’s popularity has exploded in Iceland because of the media attention. Thorisdottir also talked about going to Reebok Headquarters and the tour she will do with Reebok later this year.

35:30 Rich Froning Jr., a crowd favorite since his first Games in 2010, has had a busy year in 2011. He trained hard all year, got married in June and won the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games in July. Rich talked about how he loved the programming at this year’s competition, and he discussed his favorite event: the Rope/Clean. Froning failed on the rope climbs in 2010 but had them mastered in 2011, and he shared how he prepared for the competition. He also discussed coaching athletes at Tennessee Tech and working with the coaches of various sports to ensure the athletes are training with functional fitness. Finally, the new champ commented on Reebok’s involvement in the sport and what his relationship with them has been like.
